Aston Villa vs Liverpool Sunday 31st March 2013

Hands up – yesterday’s football was a disaster. Sometimes in this game things go wrong and that’s what happened with West Brom and Chelsea. At least Hernandez was left off the subs bench, so it’s stakes back on that one. In today’s game, Liverpool travel to Villa Park, where Aston Villa are in dire need of a victory to take them out of the relegation zone. Whilst they’ve won their previous two games against Reading and QPR, Villa haven’t kept a clean sheet since Christmas. On the other hand, if you looked up “inconsistency” in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of the Liverpool club crest. The only team to have shut out Suarez and co in the Premiership since the start of December has been West Brom, and it’s hard to see Liverpool not getting on the scoresheet. However, in that time, they’ve lost to Southampton, West Brom, Oldham, Stoke…and today’s opponents.

Aston Villa have a star of their own in Christian Benteke, who is in great form, scoring in his last 2 games. Backing both teams to score at 4/6 with Coral or over 2.5 goals at 4/6 with Ladbrokes isn’t going to make you rich, but I’ve seen worse bets. The interesting bet to me is for the Villa victory. At 9/2 with BetVictor, you’re taking a bit of a risk, but if Villa start well and get the home crowd behind them, they could find themselves out of the drop zone this evening. For those of you who’re looking for a bigger payday, Aston Villa to win 2-1 at 18/1 or 3-1 at 50/1 with StanJames seem the most realistic scorelines if they are going to come out on top.
