Sorry for no tips yesterday, but what with their only being one dull Southwell card on, i couldn’t bring myself to do any tips. Such a depressing Saturday.
Sunday has some quality races taking place in Ireland. The Flat returns to Ireland with some nice little handicaps with some potentially well handicapped horses!
Bird’s Eye View – NAP 15:00 Curragh 6/4
This horse was beaten in its maiden by a certain horse called Nephrite by 6 lengths when going off at the 11/2 favourite. Nephrite was then thrown in the deep end running in a group 3 at Leopardstown in which he beat the highly respected Born To Sea by 1 1/2 length. Born To Sea has since placed in a group 1 2 lengths behind the exciting Camelot.
Today is her handicap debut off a market of 79 which means she has a weight advantage over Srucahan and Battleroftheboyne who have both won in the last season. She should love the ground and although 6/4 isn’t a big price, i think it’s a fair price for this progressive fillie.
Anton Chigurh – NB – 16:30 Curragh 8/1
Usually i’d shy away from a 20 runner handicap as its not my cup of tea, but i’m happy to get involved with Anton Chigurh today. Tom Dascombe’s 4 year old gelding ended last season on a high winning a class 3 and class 2 handicap. Those were 6 and 7 runner affairs, this is a 20 runner affair, so that’s a little unknown, how he’ll cope with all the hustle and bustle of a frantic 20 runner affair.
One thing very much in his favour is the fact his last two wins were both on testing ground and with the ground today being Soft to Heavy. I’d consider a small stakes ew bet on this race as it is a bit of a lottery, but by placing this bet on Anton Chigurh, you know you have a horse that acts on the ground and will be ready to challenge today.
