Sunday’s are usually reserved for putting your feet up and enjoying the football, which i will be doing, but i’ll also take a detour from my sofa to my laptop to watch these two horses run today, both have top chances
Benheir – Ffos Las 15:55 – NAP – 6/4 Vcbet
This horse started to question his own liking for the game with two pulled up efforts this year. After being reschooled at home he turned up as Ffos Las and really should of won. He looked beat going to 2 out with the favourite Mountanous coming up sides. He battled back impressively and only went down by a length. Coming to the final fence he was almost level and then got a real knock off the eventual winner that cost him a length or so, the stewards took the owners concerns onboard but no action came from the enquiry.
If he reproduces that run, he can win yet again, for the owners of Teaforthree who enjoyed a cool £100k+ payday for finishing 3rd in the Grand National last week.
Declaration Of War – 15:05 Leopardstown – NB 5/4 Boylesports
In what is effectively a 2 horse race, i’ve decided to go for the horse thats essentially achieved the most. Declaration Of War won the Diamond Stakes at Dundalk in October, and hasn’t been seen since. Prior to that he won a turf race on heavy ground at the Curragh which shows he’s versatile. Sweet Lightening won a listed race last time on heavy, beating some half decent sorts. Sweet Lightening is an 8 year old with 35 races under his belt, notching up 6 wins. Declaration Of War is a 4 year old who’s won 4 from 5. His one defeat was to the Curragh specialist Famous Name who won at long odds on. So he wasn’t too disgraced there and that run was probably just to ascertain what the calibre of the horse was. He’s not going to be a superstar, but is open to oodles of progression.
