Poor Finians Rainbow, beaten by an impressive novice. Had a pretty big bet on that and was hoping the pricewise horse wouldn’t improve enough to win the race, damnit!
Ridasiyna – 2:40 Longchamp 10/3 Stanjames NAP
What a cracking race this is. The Prix Ganay has a group 1 status with over £130k to the winner, not bad for a quiet sunday. Some of the horses in this race ooze class, Dunaden(13-2 William Hill), Caulfield Cup winner, Hong Kong Vase winner, multiple group 1 winner. Giofra (3/1 William Hill), winner of the group 1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket last year. Maxios (9/2 William Hill), multiple group 2/3 winner in france.
The selection, Ridasiyna, won the Prix De L’opera Longines at Longchamp in October, Giofra was back in 3rd, 3 1/2 lengths behind the winner. The Aga Khan’s horse is lightly raced, having won 4 from 6. After 2 handicaps, this horse went straight into a group 3, winning it in style. Going up to group 3 company next time, a poor showing saw Ridasiyna finish 5th of 7, however, on it’s next start it beat some useful sorts, Giofra, Izzi Top and Goldikova‘s half broher, Galikova. His next assignment was the Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Turf. She finished 4th, but a close up 4th, just over a length off the eventual winner Zagora, half a length behind The Fugue who finished 3rd. I’m convinced if she had a better run that day she’d of won.
The mare is open to further improvement, and although there are horses here with more achievements under their belts, they’ve been highly tried, Ridasiyna could turn into a very useful horse with time, starting today.
