Horse Racing Preview May 25th-26th

Our ante-post advice earlier in the week is looking good with all three original selections cut in price. Sole Power was advised at 7-2 for the Temple Stakes and is now down to 2-1 following the withdrawal of Pearl Secret. Reckless Abandon looks to be his chief rival but I still have respect for the Robert Cowell-trained pair of Spirit Quartz and Kingsgate Native.

Spirit Quartz was done no favours by the draw in the Palace House Stakes and again finds himself on the opposite side of the course to the favourite. He has three lengths to find and may struggle if Tangerine Trees gives Sole Power a nice tow into the race. Kingsgate Native remains slightly enigmatic but Cowell reports both sprinters to be in fine shape. So far the worst of the showers have avoided Haydock so it is still looking good for the fast ground that the favourite loves.

Breton Rock has been taken out of the Silver Bowl and Here Comes When is 5-1 from 7-1 to follow up his Chester win. That still leaves Richard Hannon’s Baltic Knight and I am going to have a saver on this promising colt. He beat Here Comes When at Newbury and is better off at the weights and the form received another boost when the third horse won a nice handicap at Newmarket on Saturday. His run behind Dundonell was a good one and he will be a big danger if this race does not come too quickly.

The Irish 2000 Guineas has been turned on its head by a flood of money for Chester Dee Stakes winner Magician. Many observers felt that he had earned a crack at the Epsom Derby with that win but he has apparently been showing so much speed at home that he is regarded as the stable number one here. That is quite an honour with a Breeders’ Cup winner and two horses that were beaten only three or four lengths in the French Guineas to consider.

If you are on Magician at 14-1 I wish you luck but he no longer represents value at 5-2. The one that interests me is Flying The Flag at 33-1 with Stan James. The French Guineas was something of a farce with the horses finishing in a heap but Flying The Flag was arguably the unluckiest of the lot. He trailed the entire field turning in but made up an enormous amount of ground. My biggest worry is that he will be used as a pacemaker as he was last season but at 33-1 I’m prepared to take a punt.

Just The Judge is on course for the 1000 Guineas and I’m optimistic that she can give Charlie Hills his first classic success. Moth looks almost certain to be diverted to the Oaks next week and I think Snow Queen could emerge as the biggest danger. She ran well at Newmarket without ever threatening the leaders and should not be far behind Just The Judge.

Baltic Knight 6-1 Coral
Flying The Flag 33-1 Stan James

Monday 6th April Horse Racing Tips

Oh my word. Words cannot describe how poorly Hot Snap run. When she beat Sky Lantern last time out, Winning express was in 3rd. This time around, Hot Snap is nowhere to be seen and Sky Lantern wins, with Winning Express in 4th. If she’d run any sort of race we’d of been bang there. No problem with the horse has been reported so i guess she just didn’t fancy it. So disappointing.

Let’s try to get back on track today with a horse that has already been getting backed off the boards as if defeat isn’t an option.

Moonstone Magic – Curragh 16:50 11/4 Bet365

This was 4-1 about an hour before writing this article, it’s now 9/4 in places. The race isnt for 18 hours! Moonstone Magic put up two really good performances, especially the victory in the group 3 Dubai Duty Free Stakes at Newbury last year. She then went into the 1000 guineas as the 13/2 2nd favourite and was put in her place by Homecoming Queen.

I am more than happy to forgive her that run, Homecoming Queen absolutely dominated that race (and hasn’t done anything since), although it seemed a bit of a fluke.

The fact this was 2nd favourite for the 1000 guineas shows the public support and the connections thoughts on where the horse would go. Now, since then, she’s been off the track for over a year. But if she’s fit and ready to go, this significant drop from a group 1 to group 3(a grade she’s won at before) should see the best of her.

Now, Viztoria. Won a listed race then came 2nd in a group 2 at Masions-Laffitte. It’s hard to really know how good that race was, there were some decent types in the race, but also some suprising overachievers, like Boomshackelacker, who came 11th of 11 in a Kempton Group 3 before heading off to France for the race. At evens, i’m more than happy to take it on.

Saturday 4th May Horse Racing Tips

It’s been a decent week for us, several winners and a cheeky double. Who could want any more than that?

Today is 2000 guineas day, and in typical Tipsy Tipster fashion, i am going to look away from the race in order to find us a winner today. Why? I think the 2000 guineas is actually difficult to call, my heart wants Dawn Approach to win, my head is saying Toronado could put it to him, can’t decide. Reverse Forecast maybe?

Sentaril – 4:05 Goodwood – 11/4 Stanjames

Sentaril, ridden by Graham Lee, is the top rated horse in this race. He has shown he takes to the mile distance after asserting when beating Burke’s Rock (who reopposes) last time out at Lingfield. Burke’s rock has a 3 pound pull at the weights under Mikael Barzelona, and is the most likely to come 2nd to the selection.

Stiring Ballad will be popular and could well get up and win, but the form of Sentaril, what he’s achieved and the company he’s been keeping should see him come out on top today.

Additionally, another horse worthy of a little investment is Ayaar in the 17:35 at Newmarket. A muliple winner last year including a group 3 contest at Baden-Baden. He took on Dawn Approach after that and understandly got well beaten. His next run he took on Gareswood in a group 1 at Newmarket, finishing 4th, 3 lengths behind that day. This is a class drop, and at around the 13/2 mark (Stanjames) – He’s well worth a look.

Guineas weekend – Horse Racing Tips

Two big races take place this weekend, firstly, the 2000 guineas. On Sunday we are treated to the 1,000 guineas.

There are two horses i fancy very strongly, and unfortunately they are fairly obvious. Months ago i put Dawn Approach up at 7-2 to win the 2000 guineas, he’s now as short as evens in places. This unbeaten Godolphin horse trained by Jim Bolger is going for 7 wins out of 7 here. No prep run would normally concern, but when you consider the facilities available to trainers to train horses in race course conditions, i wouldn’t be too put off by this.

Toronado won impressively last time out and saw his price get slashed as a result. Richard Hughes was very vocal in saying this is the best horse in Hannon’s yard and he’ll have an exceptional chance of winning the 2000 guineas. I do rate him as a serious danger, and i will be doing reverse forecasts with Dawn Approach as a result of this. Nothing else in the race even tickles my fancy. I’ve done a small bet on George Vancouver, but i cant realistically see him holding a candle up to these two.

In the 1,000 guineas i can only focus on one horse. Hot Snap. I backed Sky Lantern big when Hot Snap beat him, my bank balance is still crying as a result. As soon as i saw the horse win i was convinced she was the one for the 1,000 guineas. I am going to leave that there, apart from What A Name, i cannot see this horse getting beat, i really cant. The 11/4 on offer now looks juicy.

Suggested bets:

Dawn Approach & Hot Snap double 8.92 Skybet
Dawn Approach to beat Toronado FC

Hot Snap to win 1,000 Guineas & Oaks 14-1 Paddy Power

All i would say is, i really fancied Camelot & Maybe last year, and did a tasty double. Camelot won, and Homecoming Queen popped up and caused a 25-1 shock in the the 1,000 guineas. I find it difficult to comprehend something similar to that happening this time. I may have blinkers on, but i still seriously think these two horses are the real deal.

Thursday 2nd May Horse Racing Tips

Well, what a day we had yesterday! I hope you got on the singles and the double. The drift meant we got paid at over 10-1!

Today we’re going to put up another cheeky double.

Hamoody 16:00 Redcar – 6/5 Bet365

Dandy Nicholls has a great strike rate in claimers, a cool 36%. This horse has been dictating the all weather scene over the past few months, with 3 wins out of 6 claimers. When you consider the opposition he has today he has a great chance. These lot have been all over the place recently. Let’s hope he enjoys turf as much as he does the all weather.

Mission Approved – 16:50 Lingfield 13/8 Bet365

Ryan Moore takes this ride for the Sir Michael Stoute Dansilli colt. Improved from a fair Kempton maiden to win class 5 maiden at Warwick. That day Mission Approved was headed over 3f out, and battled back to ease to victory within the final furlong. There is a 5lb rise for that, but any hints at progression should eliviate any rise in the weights. Khobaraa rates as the main danger, winning a class 6 maiden on debut for John Gosdan.

We’re happy with Mission Approved to continue improving, so we’ll take a chance with him.

Wednesday 1st May Horse Racing Tips

Good old Mubtadi, did us yet another favour. That’s the 3rd time he’s got up for us, another cheeky hands and heels ride by Thomas Brown who oozed confidence. Awesomeness.

There are two horses i quite like today, cheeky double maybe?

Rockalong – NAP – 16:45 Ascot – 11/4 VCBet

This horse was tipped up by us before, and went off a well backed favourite at Kempton last time out. He won the race in some style under todays pilot and despite a 5lb rise in the weights, and a switch to turf(slight lie, his maiden was on turf where he was tailed off, this is his first proper attempt at turf in a higher grade), he could be progressing quite nicely.

Stuccodor – NB – 17:15 Tipperery – 11/8 Bet365

A nicely progressive horse that turned a 10f race at Leopardstown into a precession last time. He handles testing ground and while he would probably prefer a longer trip, this shorter distance tonight shouldn’t inconvenience him and has to be strongly considered for this contest.

VCBet £10 double pays £84.38 – Sounds good to us!
